Scoliosis:  This is a condition where the spine of the child in an abnormal lateral position. If the lateral curve is more than 10 degrees, the child has to undergo treatment for Scoliosis.

Skeletal dysplasia: Skeletal dysplasia is a genetic disorder. Children suffering from skeletal dysplasia face present medical and social concerns.

Spinal Stenosis: Put in simple words, spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal. This condition is caused due to pressure on the spinal cord and its nerves that will in turn lead to irritation and inflammation.

Cerebral palsy: Cerebral palsy is a disorder that prevents children from using some of their muscles in a normal way. The disorder affects movement and posture.  Children suffering from cerebral palsy struggle with vision, hearing and speech. Sometimes their limbs move involuntarily.

Clubfoot: Clubfoot is a congenital disease that affects one or both feet of the child. The foot of the child appears like it is rotated at the ankle.

Limb Deformity: Bow legs and knock knees are some times of limb deformities. They can be congenital or appear as the child grows.

What are the treatments under Pediatric Orthopedics

Some of the treatment procedures under pediatric orthopedics are:

Therapeutic electrical stimulation (TES): TES is a treatment for cerebral palsy. It involves stimulating the blood flow to weakened muscles.

Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR): SDR is a surgery to treat cerebral palsy. The procedure involves cutting a part of the lumbar and sacral sensory nerve. This treatment along with an intense course of physical therapy helps reduce spasticity.

Ponseti Serial Casting: Ponseti technique of serial casting is a treatment for club foot. This treatment involves stretching and manipulation of the foot with the help of a cast.

Bracing: Bracing is another treatment for clubfoot. Bracing is a follow up treatment of casting. Casting corrects the deformity. Bracing helps maintain the correction.

Femoral derotation osteotomy: In extreme cases of femoral anteversion, where the child has problem walking or running, the doctor recommends surgery.  In this procedure, the surgeon will cut the femur, rotate it and fix it properly.
